Mame Os X

MAME OS X is an OS X port of the MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) emulator. It is used to emulate old arcade games such as Pacman, NBA Jam, Street Fighter, X-Men, and 1942. In order to play games with MAME OS X you need the ROMs from the original arcade games. I currently use MAME Launcher as a frontend for SDLMAME, MAME OS X or MacMAME. If you use SDLMAME, along with the binary, don't forget to install the SDL Runtime Library in /Library/Frameworks. Then just set the correct paths in MAME Launcher. The reason I use MAME Launcher (and SDLMAME) is because I can play a ROM (eg. Thankfully, r0ni works really hard at maintaining a version of MAME that runs natively on OS X (via Command Line, it has no windowed GUI). You can download the latest version here. Before you try and use it, though, you need to install the SDL2 framework, download it here. Open the DMG, and copy the SDL2.framework to /Library/Frameworks. Mac OS x Users: Some users reported issues to install Java Superior to 6. If it is you case, read this Stack Overflow thread. A version of Mame 0.149+ that suits your operating system. Make sure Mame is correctly installed and works as expected before trying ia-rcade. Alternatively, there is a big MAME 0.106 ROMs+CHDs archive (70GB) available at MAME 0.106 ROMs, CHDs, and Samples. Or you can get the MAME 0.149 ROMs archive and use a rom manager to adjust it for AdvanceMAME.

Download these if you can't or don't wish to build MAME and don't mind waiting for the next release date to see progress.Please Note: In all source release versions starting with 0.162, MAME is a binary which consists the entirety of source (including the former MESS project). As a result, MESS links here will likely only be available up to 0.161 with anything beyond expected to be obtained at the MAME link. For the time being, old MESS can be compiled using 'SUBTARGET=mess' while older MAME (arcade only) can be made with 'SUBTARGET=arcade'. Support for these older styles of binaries will be discontinued in the near future.
